Federal Government Consultation
November 16, 2020: the Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) launched a review of Canada’s Radioactive Waste Policy. CLICK HERE to find out more from NRCan.
February 2021: Environment North joined over 100 groups signed a joint letter by Nuclear Waste Watch which sets out our expectations for this review including transparency and indendency from the nuclear industry. CLICK HERE for more information and how to participate with Northwatch.
The NWMO was asked by NRCan to lead part of this review and to an Inegrated Strategy for Radioactive Waste (ISRW) by engaging with Canadians and Indigenous peoples. CLICK HERE to find out more about the ISRW from the NWMO.

"The NWMO is a not-for profit organization established in 2002 by Canada’s nuclear electricity producers in accordance with the Nuclear Fuel Waste Act (NFWA). The founding members of the NWMO are Ontario Power Generation (OPG), New Brunswick Power Corporation, and Hydro-Québec (HQ). These organizations, along with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), are mandated to fund our operations."
